More than 72,000 police personnel will be deployed nationwide for Undas 2026 as the Philippine National Police (PNP) steps up security and road safety operations.

In a statement on Tuesday, the PNP said its personnel would be supported by augmentation forces from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, local government units, and other force multipliers.

“Our goal is not only to respond to emergencies but to help prevent them through vigilance, discipline, and timely intervention,” PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.

“I have directed our police commanders to strengthen coordination with local government units and traffic authorities, increase police visibility along major travel routes and accident-prone areas, and ensure prompt assistance to motorists,” he added.

The police organization will also be under full alert status from October 30 to November 2 to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order during the observance of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.

Police units were also instructed to conduct information campaigns reminding motorists to inspect their brakes, tires, lights, and other critical vehicle components before traveling.

Nartatez reminded motorists to avoid speeding, distracted driving, and driving while fatigued. He also urged drivers to exercise extra caution on downhill roads, sharp curves, and heavily congested areas, particularly during peak travel periods.

“Every safe journey begins with responsible decisions. Check your vehicle, obey traffic laws, avoid risky behavior, and never let haste compromise safety. Passengers also play an important role. Speak up when you see unsafe driving because protecting lives is a responsibility we all share,” he said.

Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) urged the public to be vigilant against individuals posing as priests or authorized religious ministers who offer prayers, blessings, or other religious services in exchange for money.

“Do not hesitate to verify. If you are uncertain about the identity or affiliation of a person claiming to be a priest, coordinate directly with the cemetery administration or the concerned parish or diocese,” NCRPO officer-in-charge Police Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano said in a separate statement.

“When in doubt, do not hand over money or personal information,” he added.

The NCRPO encouraged visitors to report suspicious individuals to the nearest police personnel, Police Assistance Desk, cemetery security personnel, or local police station. —VAL, GMA News
