Champions League line-ups: Manchester United vs. Roma

ROME, ITALY - OCTOBER 14: Donyell Malen of AS Roma celebrates scoring his team’s second goal during the UEFA Champions League 2026/27 League Phase MD2 match between AS Roma and Real Madrid C.F. at Stadio Olimpico on October 14, 2026 in Rome, Italy. (Photo by Tullio M. Puglia/Getty Images)
Roma are forced to pick third choice goalkeeper Devis Vasquez, but Donyell Malen, Rodrigo Mora and Matias Soulé face Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes in the Champions League.
It kicks off at Old Trafford at 20.00 GMT (21.00 CEST).

The Giallorossi lost only one competitive match all season, the 4-3 defeat to Real Madrid when they had been leading 3-1 going into the 82nd minute.
They are still missing Paulo Dybala, Mile Svilar, Manu Koné and Lorenzo Pellegrini, but the hours leading up to this game were dominated by concern over second choice goalkeeper Gollini.
He was struggling with a back injury sustained during the final training session, and failed a fitness test, with the only other options Devis Vasquez and 19-year-old Giorgio De Marzi.

Elsewhere, Rodrigo Mora and Soulé support hitman Malen for a very attack-minded team.
Devyne Rensch and Wesley take up the wings, with Leonardo Balerdi stepping into the back three rather than Evan N’Dicka.

Manchester United are in pure crisis with many assuming this might be the last chance for Michael Carrick to save his job.
It would be an opportunity for revenge, as Carrick scored twice when Manchester United beat Roma 7-1 in 2007.
They sit 17th in the Premier League with just seven points from nine rounds and are without a victory since the 4-0 Champions League result with Sabah FK on September 10.
That was followed by three draws and six defeats in all competition, including a 4-1 hammering by Como.

They’ve lost their last three games on the bounce, scoring one goal and conceding nine.
Lenny Yoro is available again after his suspension against Como, but Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu, Marcus Rashford, Manuel Ugarte and Luke Shaw are still out of action.
Bruno Fernandes was benched against Bournemouth as a result of his post-Como criticism of Carrick’s tactics, but returned to the starting XI for the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend.

Manchester United: Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Heaven, Dalot; Mainoo, Baleba; Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo
Manchester United bench: Darlow, Heaton, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Mount, Zirkzee, Andrey Santos, Tielemans, Lacey, T Fletcher, Amass
