Time Travel Spy Thriller Series Officially Coming To Paramount+

The much-anticipated spy thriller The Ministry of Time is officially making its way to Paramount+.

Even though the platform is arguably best known as a hub for Star Trek and Taylor Sheridan shows, as well as being the place to catch up on episodes of CBS dramas and comedies, Paramount+ has been announcing upcoming series that will expand its focus to more fully embrace varied genres and stories. That includes an adaptation of Kaliane Bradley's 2024 bestseller, which combines spy tensions with the intricacies of time travel.

Deadline reports that The Ministry of Time will stream on Paramount+ in the U.S., as well as select international locations, after the streamer acquired the rights to the A24-produced series. Paramount+ also acquired two other A24 shows, which are the comedy It Gets Worse and the coming-of-age drama Major Players. Release dates have yet to be announced.

Adapted by Alice Birch, an Emmy-winning writer of Sally Rooney's Normal People adaptation and HBO's Succession, the upcoming Ministry of Time series is led by Dune: Prophecy's Aoife Hinds and Under the Banner of Heaven actor Billy Howle. The story centers on a new government department, which has the goal of bringing together expats from across history to test whether time travel is possible.

The story takes a closer look at two characters, however. There's Commander Gore, played by Howle, who is an officer on a doomed Arctic expedition from all the way back in 1845. He's only one of the historic figures rescued from a death sentence, which is complicated by the fact that his professional relationship with Sophy (Hinds) soon develops into an intense and forbidden romance.

Academy Award nominee Hong Chau, Adeel Akhtar, Tamara Lawrence, Emily Fairn, Josh Finan, Hélène Patarot, Ciarán Hinds, Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Tawfeek Barhom and Aisling Loftus also star in the genre-mashing drama, which has set Top Boy's Aneil Karia as the lead director. It consists of six episodes. It's produced by A24 for BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

Even though it will likely be some time before The Ministry of Time makes its way to Paramount+ and elsewhere, it's a good time for audiences, it's a good time for audiences to pick up the novel that was praised by Emily Henry and landed on the New York Times bestseller list. It has a bit of everything and is a perfect fit for a splashy screen translation.
