The Papua New Guinea Orchids led New Zealand's Kiwi Ferns 12-8 with just minutes left in the first half on the Gold Coast.

Kaiyah Atai's 34th-minute try allowed the Ferns to go to half-time up 14-12 and Otesa Pule's barnstorming long-range effort has kept the ball rolling in the opening moments of the second stanza.

Come on, Orchids. We need at least one upset at this tournament.
