Papar school set for facility upgrades

Translate

KOTA KINABALU: Students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tampasak Kinarut in Papar, near here, are set to benefit from improved learning facilities.

The school, with 412 students and 31 teachers, is in need of repairs to deteriorating handrails, worn wooden flooring, damaged ceiling sections and ageing electrical systems in two classroom blocks.

The proposed works include repairing the ceilings, replacing handrails and flooring, upgrading electrical wiring, and repainting common areas and walkways.

Danau Girang Field Centre (DGFC) general manager Audrey Umbol said improving the school environment was important in supporting young people and community development.

"At Danau Girang, much of our work is centred on conservation, science and education.

"But ultimately, long-term conservation and community development have one important element in common — people," she said.

DGFC is a research and training facility based in Kinabatangan.

The initiative is expected to include quarterly visits to the school, with educational campaigns, awareness talks and other student-focused activities involving DGFC and volunteers.

An initial budget of RM25,000 to RM30,000 has been proposed for improvements to the two classroom blocks.

Works are planned during the school holidays to minimise disruption to lessons.

The initiative involves the Marriott Business Council East Malaysia and four hotels — Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu, Kota Kinabalu Marriott Hotel, Sheraton Kota Kinabalu and Fairfield by Marriott Kota Kinabalu.
