Halloween is one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time, thanks largely to Michael Myers, one of the slasher genre’s most terrifying killers. Across 13 films spanning four main timelines, the franchise has also built a lasting legacy that extends beyond the silver screen through video games, novelizations, comics, and more. Now, Michael Myers is set to return once again, this time in a new prequel spinoff series.

This Spooky Season has truly been epic for Halloween fans, thanks to the September 8, 2026, release of Halloween: The Game. Developed by IllFonic and co-published with Gun Interactive, Halloween: The Game is a survival horror video game based on John Carpenter's original 1978 movie. The game notably allows players to experience Michael Myers' return to Haddonfield from both the killer's and his potential victims' perspectives, offering both online multiplayer and single-player story modes.

Those who choose to play as Michael Myers are tasked with stalking residents and hunting victims throughout Haddonfield while avoiding detection. Conversely, those who play as civilians must save their neighbors, contact the authorities, find weapons, and escape alive.

Now, fans can look forward to a brand-new spinoff that connects the Halloween franchise's original movie era with its new video game. The upcoming five-issue series, Halloween: The Game Comic, will expand on this era with a new story set before the original film, serving as an official prequel.

Halloween the game comic

Releasing November 4, 2026, Halloween: The Game Comic #1 is the first issue of a five-issue horror comic series that revisits the original 1978 movie era while expanding the mythology of the new video game. Like the video game's single-player story, the comic tells a new Michael Myers story set on the night before the film's events, following Michael as he orchestrates a brutal escape from Smith's Grove Sanitarium.

The comic also sees the return of Dr. Loomis, who realizes pure evil is loose as “Michael begins his relentless journey home toward Haddonfield, slaughtering anyone unfortunate enough to cross his path.” Written by Hans Rodionoff and Adam F. Goldberg, who also worked on the game's single-player story, and illustrated by Eamon Winkle, Ivan Dedov, and Robert Nugent, the first issue is slated to be 28 pages long and will be available for $5.99 upon release.

Fans should note that playing Halloween: The Game isn't necessary to enjoy the comic series. While the comic will give players a deeper appreciation of the lore explored in the game, its story will be complete without any prior knowledge of the game. Therefore, if you're simply a fan of the original movie, this is the perfect story for you, as it returns to that era without retelling the 1978 film. Instead, it explores Michael's escape and journey home, covering the events of the night before the movie begins.

Fans can expect completely new, previously unseen events that introduce new victims, situations, and encounters without changing the familiar events they already know. The comic series will stand out as a bold dive into cross-media storytelling, delivering a Halloween prequel fans will love.
