'Police whose job is to provide security is making women feel threatened': Priyanka Gandhi on Jantar Mantar incident

Priyanka Gandhi raises women safety issue with an X post

NEW DELHI: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday raised allegations of sexual harassment made by women journalists during reporting at Jantar Mantar, questioning the police response to the complaints. In a post on X, Gandhi said women journalists had accused police personnel of sexual harassment while covering the protests. She alleged that despite protests by several journalists, no FIR had been registered and no concrete action had been taken.

Gandhi also claimed that women participating in peaceful protests had alleged “indecent” behaviour by police personnel.“The very police whose job it is to provide security is making women feel threatened,” Gandhi said, adding that women, from college students to journalists, were facing insecurity.Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, Gandhi asked whether such treatment of women was appropriate and urged them to take notice of the allegations."From college students to journalists—women are facing insecurity everywhere. @narendramodi ji, @AmitShah ji, is this the right way to treat women? If not, then why don't you take notice of it?" she wrote in an X post. The Delhi Police had earlier said that three female journalists made allegations of sexual harassment during the protest in the New Delhi area on October 3. The complaints were received by the New Delhi district police and transferred to the Crime Branch at Kamla Market for further action.
