Current political dynamics may lead to various realignments, says Fahmi

Pakatan Harapan has not held any discussions with Bersatu on political cooperation ahead of the Melaka state election and the 16th general election (GE16), says PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi said while the coalition did not rule out the possibility of political cooperation, there had so far been no efforts towards such a move, Berita Harian reported.

“So far, we (PH) have not held any discussions with Bersatu on political cooperation, particularly ahead of the Melaka state election.

“Tonight, the prime minister (Anwar Ibrahim) and Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari, who is the Pakatan Harapan election director, will be going to Masjid Tanah (in Melaka) to officiate a programme.

“Perhaps they have additional information beyond what was mentioned by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin,” he told reporters after officiating a communications ministry programme in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.

Muhyiddin said yesterday Bersatu was open to negotiations with any party willing to cooperate, but stressed that such ties must be based on sincerity.

Speaking at the party’s 10th anniversary celebration, he said Bersatu could not contest GE16 on its own, and was open to negotiations with any party willing to cooperate.

He assured party members that while Bersatu would seek allies for the sake of its survival, it would not compromise on its principles.

Muhyiddin said Bersatu had already discussed potential electoral cooperation with Muda, while Putra had indicated its openness to working with Bersatu.
