SINGAPORE, Oct 10 — A fragrance shop along Bussorah Street has shared CCTV footage of a woman allegedly stealing a bottle of fragrance from its display, with the incident drawing calls from netizens for her and her partner to be held accountable.
The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday (October 6) at about 2.30pm.
The footage was shared by Nurputeri BidadariMu on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page on Wednesday by a staff member of the unnamed shop.
In the video, a couple, believed to be tourists, can be seen browsing the fragrance shelves together before the woman appears to pick up a bottle and slip it into her handbag when she is alone.
The footage was accompanied by captions highlighting the alleged theft, with one remarking that the items may not have been expensive but that such behaviour should not be normalised.
The shop’s staff member also warned other businesses to remain vigilant, saying that a police report had been made.
Two perfume bottles allegedly missing
According to the social media post, the couple had purchased some items from the shop, but two perfume bottles were subsequently found to be missing from the display.
The post also alleged that the woman had attempted to pay in US dollars, which a staff member declined to accept.
She was reportedly unhappy with the refusal and repeatedly questioned why the shop could not accept the currency.
The staff member said the missing items were discovered only after the couple had left the premises.
The CCTV footage was shared as a warning to other shop owners and businesses to be on the lookout for similar incidents.
In response to Stomp’s queries, the police confirmed that a report had been lodged and investigations are ongoing.
