'I'm still in shock' - GB's Skupski wins US Open doubles title with Harrison

Britain's Neal Skupski and American partner Christian Harrison won the US Open men's doubles title to claim their second Grand Slam trophy together.

The fifth seeds did not drop a set in New York as they beat sixth seeds Tim Puetz and Kevin Krawietz 6-4 7-6 (8-6) to secure the title.

Victory adds to Skupski and Harrison's Australian Open triumph in January in what was their first Grand Slam as a pairing.

Skupski had suffered a heartbreaking defeat in last year's US Open final, missing three championship points when he reached the showpiece alongside fellow Briton Joe Salisbury.

He and Dutchman Wesley Koolhof were also beaten in the 2022 final.

Salisbury later took a break from tennis because of anxiety, which led to Skupski partnering up with Harrison.

Cheered by the Flushing Meadows crowd, who rallied behind home hope Harrison, the pair saved a set point in the second set tie-break before Skupski sealed victory with a smash at the net.

"I don't know what to say really, I'm still in shock. The speech gets a little bit easier once you've won," said Skupski.

"Losing twice and having championship points in the final last year was a tough part of my career, but it's amazing what a year does in tennis."

Skupski and Harrison secured the first and only break of the match in the first set, the American slamming a backhand winner down the line to lead 4-3 before seeing out the opener.

The second set remained on serve until the tie-break, where Puetz and Krawietz profited from a return which clipped the net and wrong-footed Harrison to give the Germans a set point.

Skupski and Harrison saved it and then brought up championship point as the noise levels rose on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Skupski dropped to his knees in celebration after sealing victory before turning to hug Harrison.

Victory at Flushing Meadows marks Skupski's third doubles Grand Slam title after he won at Wimbledon in 2023 alongside Koolhof.

Skupski also has two mixed doubles Grand Slam titles to his name after winning Wimbledon in 2021 and 2022 with American Desirae Krawczyk.
