Asian Games 2026: Tennis events draws announced; List of India’s fixtures, opponents

Tennis draws at the Asian Games were announced on Friday, revealing opponents for the Indian squad participating in the continental games in Aichi-Nagoya.

In the men’s singles, Dhakshineswar Suresh, who received a bye in round one, will take on Indonesia’s Gunawan Trismuwantara in the second round. Sumit Nagal, who also received a bye in the opening round, will now take on South Korea’s Hong Seong-chan.

In the men’s doubles, India has two pairs in play. Anirudh Chadrasekhar and Sriram Balaji (entering the fray as top seeds) have been handed a bye in the opening round and will face the winner of the round-one clash between Mongolia’s Badrakh Munkhbaatar and Zolbadar Urnukh and Nepal’s Abhishek Bastola and Pradip Khadka.

Fifth seed pair Yuki Bhambri and Dhakshineshwar were handed a bye and will now face the winner of the round-one clash between Kazakhstan’s Denis Yerseyev and Beibit Zhukayev and Hong Kong’s Siu Chi Nicholas Cheng and Wong Tsz Fu.

In women’s doubles, India has Ankita Raina and Rutuja Bhosale, seeded eighth. The pair will open its campaign against Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and Yuliya Putintseva.

India is fielding two pairs in the mixed doubles category where it won gold in Hangzhou in 2023.

Bhambri and Rutuja are seeded No. 2, while N. Sriram Balaji and Ankita are the No. 4 seeds.

Bhambri and Rutuja received a bye in the first round and will now face the winner of the round one clash between Iran’s Ali Yazdani and Mandegar Farzami and Chinese Taipei’s Chun-Hsin Tseng and Su-Wei Hsieh.

In 2023 in Hangzhou, India’s Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale won the gold medal in mixed doubles, defeating ninth seeds Tsung-hao Huang and Liang En-shuo of Chinese Taipei 2-6, 6-3, 10-4 in a final that lasted one hour and 14 minutes.

No Indians will feature in the women’s singles event. Philippines’ Alex Eala, the highest-ranking Filipino and Southeast Asian in WTA history, having reached a career-high ranking of world No. 18 in August 2026, will headline that discipline. Incidentally, she is being fined money and points by the WTA for missing a mandatory Masters 1000 for being at the Asian Games.

Asian Games winners secure a spot in the LA 2028 Olympics. Tennis gets underway in Aichi-Nagoya on Sunday, September 27.
