Somesuch Signs ‘In Camera’ Filmmaker Naqqash Khalid

Translate

EXCLUSIVE: Director and writer Naqqash Khalid has signed with Somesuch for worldwide representation.

Khalid is best known for his debut feature, In Camera.

Released in 2024 and backed by BBC Films and the BFI, the film won Best First Feature at the Dinard British Film Festival, the FIPRESCI award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, and received further nominations at the BIFAs, London Critics’ Circle Film Awards and London Film Festival.

The film follows Aden (played by Nabhaan Rizwan), an actor who is hoping to break into the UK film industry but faces a series of challenges that make him question his desire to be accepted by a system that wasn’t built to include him. After a cycle of nightmarish auditions and multiple rejections, he finally lands a job role-playing as the dead son of a grieving mother (Josie Walker) going through therapy.

The film, which was shot over six weeks in 2022 in Manchester, UK, was produced by former BFI exec Mary Burke via her new Public Dreams banner and Juliette Larthe of Prettybird.

Since In Camera, Naqqash has worked on several short films. In collaboration with Riz Ahmed and WePresent, he directed a short documentary exploring why Hamlet still holds a mirror up to society today. His most recent short, Flint, was awarded Best UK Short Film at the 2026 London Short Film Festival.

Naqqash co-wrote the script for Good Boy, starring Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough, and is currently working on his next feature.
