Ella Langley’s ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Dethrones ‘Rein Me In’ to Score Its First Week at No. 1 in the U.K.

Ella Langley has finally lassoed the U.K. chart crown. The country superstar’s hit “Choosin’ Texas” has reached the summit of the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart published Friday, (Sept. 4), giving the singer her first chart-topper in the region.

The track’s journey to the top in the U.K. has been a slow and steady one. As per new findings from the Official Charts Company, after debuting at No. 78 in January, “Choosin’ Texas” broke into the top 40 the following month, the top 20 in April and then the top 10 in July. It reached No. 3 in August before finally completing its eight-month climb to the summit.

Impressively, Langley’s arrival at No. 1 also marks the end of a record-breaking reign. Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s “Rein Me In” falls to No. 7, bringing its 23 non-consecutive weeks atop the chart to a close. The collaborative track remains the longest-running No. 1 single in the U.K., pulling clear of Frankie Laine’s “I Believe” in the all-time rankings, which notched 18 weeks at No. 1 in 1953.

“Choosin’ Texas,” meanwhile, is enjoying major success in the U.S. As of Aug. 31, Langley has spent a landmark 20 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, securing the first non-Christmas track to reach this milestone. It passed the 19-week record previously held by Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” and Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”

Elsewhere on the Official Singles Chart, Sienna Spiro’s “Great Expectation” rises to No. 2, becoming the new pop-soul supernova’s highest charting number yet. “Movin’ to the Sun” by Hugel, Imael Angel and Ultra Nate follows at No. 3, while Stella Lefty’s “Boston” holds firm at No. 4.

The late Dolly Parton places three songs in the top 10 simultaneously for the first time as fans honor her legacy following the news of her death on Aug. 25. Signature hit “9 to 5” climbs to No. 5, reaching a new all-time high, while “Jolene” and Kenny Rogers team-up “Islands In the Stream” follow at No. 6 and No. 9, respectively.

Other notable placements include Dua Lipa’s 2024 single “Training Season” — which peaked at No. 4 upon release — rocketing to No. 18 two years later thanks to a viral social media trend and subsequent physical vinyl single release. Sombr’s “My Body Isn’t Ready” jumps to No. 19, while fellow pop upstart Adéla notches a new U.K. career best as “Ain’t In LA” finishes the week at No. 26.
