TASEK GELUGOR, Oct 20 — Police have detained a babysitter to assist in investigations into the death of a 10-month-old baby boy who was reported to have died while in the woman’s care here yesterday.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman said the woman was detained following the incident and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we are waiting for the post-mortem report to find out the actual cause of the baby’s death,” he said in a statement last night.

It is understood that the baby’s mother sent him to the babysitter early this morning.

The 25-year-old babysitter allegedly found the baby weak and lethargic at about 9.50 am and took him to a nearby clinic.

The baby is believed to have died before arriving at the clinic. Preliminary physical examinations reportedly found no visible bruising on his body. — Bernama
