Game of Thrones and Thursday Murder Club legends star in exclusive first look at new British Christmas film

We might not even be in October just yet, but we're already looking ahead to the festive season thanks to a brand-new trailer for upcoming British film Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint.

The trailer – which Radio Times is exclusively launching – introduces us to Game of Thrones star John Bradley as the titular character, a man who finds himself getting involved in an unorthodox production of A Christmas Carol that is being staged at a retirement home.

At the beginning of the trailer, we learn that Aubrey is something of a grinch. First we see him unceremoniously switch off a radio that is playing cheerful festive messages, before he tells a shop owner that his plans for Christmas are to "avoid it altogether".

But when an unfortunate incident involving a pensioner sees him land a community service sentence, he is sent to volunteer at a retirement home – and it soon appears that this new environment is just what he needs to overcome his somewhat misanthropic nature.

Throughout, the trailer includes appearances from a number of well-known British stars, including Bridget Jones and Thursday Murder Club star Celia Imrie (above), Loki's Sophia Di Martino and Ghosts star Kiell Smith-Bynoe – as well as a rather unrecognisable Richard E Grant.

Meanwhile, the cast for the film also includes Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton) Adrian Rawlins (Chernobyl), Karl Pilkington (An Idiot Abroad) and Alex Macqueen (The Inbetweeners) in addition to a voice role for Jim Broadbent as Charles Dickens himself.

The official synopsis for the film reads: "Aubrey Flint (John Bradley, Game of Thrones) is forced into community service at a struggling retirement home, which is under threat from an evil property developer.

"To save the home, he is roped into a gloriously chaotic production of A Christmas Carol. Along the journey, Aubrey Flint not only discovers the power of the local community but also rediscovers the magic of Christmas."

It certainly sounds like the stuff of classic Christmas movies – let's hope it makes for a heartwarming new addition to the established canon.

The movie is written by Chris Boyle-McQuarry and directed by Jack Spring, whose previous credits include Three Day Millionaire and Destination: Dewsbury.

Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint is released in UK cinemas on Friday 6 November 2026.
