An Israeli duo reached the final of the ICU European Performance Cheer Doubles Championships in Heraklion, Crete, marking a milestone for the sport in Israel.

Competing in the Youth Pom Doubles category, Mili and Romi secured a place among the 10 finalists from a field of 31 pairs representing countries across Europe.

Their achievement came during Israel’s first appearance at the championships since cheerleading was officially recognized as a sport in the country and the Israeli Cheerleading Union was recognized as its national governing body.

The championships brought together more than 1,100 participants from 24 countries. Israel was represented by four pairs competing in youth and senior categories.

The result follows years of work to develop cheerleading in Israel, establish a competitive framework and prepare athletes for international competition. Combining athleticism, strength, flexibility, precision, coordination and teamwork, the sport continues to expand its presence in Israel.

Milestone comes after years of developing cheerleading in Israel

“This is an exciting and meaningful moment for all of us,” said Dr. Lyudmila Yasinska-Demri, founder and professional director of the Israeli Cheerleading Union.

“After years of working to develop cheerleading in Israel, we received official recognition this year, and at our very first European Championships as a recognized national governing body, we have reached the final. Mili and Romi’s achievement shows that Israel has talented athletes who can compete at the highest levels in Europe. We are proud of all the athletes representing Israel and will continue working to develop the sport and achieve further international success.”

The appearance in the final marks an early competitive achievement for the newly recognized union as it works to nurture the next generation of athletes and strengthen Israel’s presence in international cheerleading.
