Dave Bautista's epic Western sci-fi action thriller won't back down on streaming, over a year after its initial release. Bautista's best movies are action-focused films, from his role as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Guardians of the Galaxy movies, to other high-octane movies like The Killer's Game and The Wrecking Crew. Because of how well-known he is in the action genre, he's always starring in numerous movies that have left an impression on audiences. Some of these impressions even go beyond a film's initial release window.
Such is the case with In the Lost Lands, a 2025 Western sci-fi movie filled to the brim with action. Based on a short story by Games of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, In the Lost Lands follows Bautista as Byoce, a hunter in the post-apocalypse, who teams up with the witch Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich) to find an artifact for the world's ruling Queen. Along the way, they encounter a number of dangers in the post-apocalypse, having to shoot and fight their way out of many dangerous situations in the process.
In The Lost Lands Gets Streaming Redemption
In the Lost Lands came out in March 2025, but, as of this month, the movie has scored redemption on streaming as it refuses to back down from the Top 10. According to data from October 15, 2026, In the Lost Lands is the Number 7 movie on HBO Max in the world. This includes scoring the Number 4 spot in the Bahamas, Belize, and Haiti, showcasing the movie's powerful performance on the streaming platform worldwide. The movie is currently available on Hulu in the United States, while HBO Max carries it internationally.
Its performance comes after the film had an underwhelming initial release last year. The movie only earned $6.5 million against a $55 million budget, making it a massive box office bomb in the process. Additionally, reviews for In the Lost Lands weren't very good: as of writing, the film holds a 24% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics based on 76 reviews. However, despite the lack of box office success and a poor initial reception, the movie has managed to hold its own at an international level.
Dave Bautista Is The Action Hero We Need
While the movie was panned for its worldbuilding and story, the film's action focus proved that Bautista is the action hero the world needs right now. He's a juggernaut in the genre, having starred in three total action movies in 2025 alone. As for his 2026 releases, he was in the aforementioned The Wrecking Crew and had a key voice role in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. His upcoming action movies include Road House 2, where he'll star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, and the upcoming Highlander remake, where he'll portray main antagonist The Kurgan.
Question 1 of 3
In the Lost Lands is just one of many high-profile action movies that Bautista's name is attached to. Its streaming success shows a high level of investment in his performances, even when the movie itself wasn't as well-received by critics. Because of how strongly the film is performing, it's a clear indication that Bautista will remain a popular action star for quite some time to come.
