Reacher gets major update as season 5 filming continues

With filming for season five under way in Toronto, Reacher fans are in for a treat, as Amazon MGM Studios has renewed the hit Prime Video series for a sixth season.

Debuting in 2022 and based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels, the series stars Alan Ritchson as the titular retired military police officer who solves crimes and dispenses justice.

The show has been a huge hit for Amazon, with season four, which premiered on 12 August, attracting 66 million viewers globally since its debut (via Variety).

Just weeks after season four aired its finale on 16 September, Amazon has confirmed that a sixth season has been greenlit.

"Reacher hits hard,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios. "What Lee Child has built and Nick Santora and his creative teams have brought to life is, simply, incredible."

He continued: "Alan Ritchson is Jack Reacher – he’s delivered a performance that has captivated audiences around the world."

Speaking about season six, Friedlander said: "Together with our partners at Paramount Television Studios, we couldn’t be more excited to continue this journey. Reacher is a truly iconic series, and we’re thrilled to be on the ride with this extraordinary cast and crew for Season Six."

Season five, based on Child’s 2015 novel Make Me, the 20th book in the series, will follow Reacher as he stops in a town called Mother's Rest.

A logline for the book reads: "Reacher's one-day stopover turns into an open-ended quest leading to the most hidden reaches of the internet, and right into the nightmare heart of darkness."

Speaking about season five, Friedlander said in a statement (via Deadline): "From Lee Child's globally beloved novels to its standout on-screen adaptation, Reacher has evolved into a true powerhouse franchise.

"The series’ ability to combine high-octane action with compelling character storytelling continues to resonate with tens of millions of viewers around the world. We’re excited to move forward with a fifth season ahead of Season Four’s debut and to build on this incredible momentum."
