The Ghana Immigration Service in the Savannah Region has arrested a 34-year-old man, Prince James, for allegedly trafficking a fellow Nigerian woman into Ghana for sexual exploitation.

In a report by ChannelOne News, the Savannah Regional Commander of the GIS, Lawrence Agyapong, said the victim reported the case about a week ago, prompting the arrest of James.

The Ghanaian media platform reported on Thursday that an investigation led officers to where the suspect lived in Cloth, a mining community in the region.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect may be linked to a human trafficking syndicate sexually exploiting young women across West African neighbouring countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Benin Republic and Togo.

“The victim told investigators that she was lured to Ghana with a promise of assistance in securing a nursing job but was allegedly forced into prostitution upon arrival,” the report said.

She further alleged that the man demanded N6m equivalent to about GH¢50,000, before she could regain her freedom.

The Nigerian woman claimed that the Lagos-based agent who facilitated her travel had misled her about the nature of the job.

It further read, “The suspect had been transferred to the GIS national headquarters in Accra to assist with further investigations, while the victim had been rescued and was receiving support.”
