Palawan ferry fire: PCG search continues for 8 missing
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday, Sept. 24, continued its search for eight individuals still missing after a passenger ferry fire off Coron, Palawan.
The PCG said its BRP Cape Engaño (MRRV-4411) resumed search and retrieval operations near Bantac Island and Lagat Island in Coron to locate the remaining victims two weeks after the incident.
Its Coast Guard Sub-Station Turda also joined maritime and foot patrols along Napuscod Island.

The blaze engulfed the M/V June Aster on Sept. 9 while it was sailing from Manila toward the village of Turda, which was 38 kilometers from the Port of Coron.
Based on the latest figures, the death toll stood at 77, while 43 survivors have been accounted for.
“The PCG remains committed to sustaining search and rescue operations and maximizing available assets and personnel to locate the missing individuals and ensure the safety of the maritime community,” it said in a statement. /mcm
