Rhaenys Targaryen remains one of the most memorable figures from the Dance of the Dragons and across all of the expanded Game of Thrones universe for that matter. In George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, Rhaenys is an experienced dragonrider whose claim to the Iron Throne was famously passed over, eventually placing her among Rhaenyra Targaryen's most important allies when the realm descended into civil war. Her bond with Meleys, the Red Queen, made the pair one of the Blacks' most important assets in the wars to come.

Eve Best brought Rhaenys to life brilliantly in House of the Dragon, capturing the character's authority, restraint, and underlying frustration over the crown that might have been hers, sometimes changing the vibe of an entire scene with nothing more than a perfectly subtle facial expression. Her story ultimately ends in tragedy at the Battle at Rook's Rest, where Rhaenys and Meleys together fall after confronting the Greens' dragons.

Their deaths were among Season 2's most devastating moments, but fans haven't seen the last of the legendary duo, as The Queen Who Never Was and the Red Queen are officially returning together in an unexpected new appearance.

Rhaenys Targaryen is officially returning to the Dance of the Dragons, with the Queen Who Never Was joining Game of Thrones: Dragonfire alongside her legendary mount, Meleys. The pair is being introduced as part of The Dragon's Divide, the game's third campaign, giving House of the Dragon fans an opportunity to reunite with two characters whose stories came to a devastating end at Rook's Rest.

Players entering The Dragon's Divide will be able to pledge themselves to Princess Rhaenys Targaryen as a new Faction Leader, effectively placing the Queen Who Never Was at the head of their side of the Targaryen Civil War. Dragonfire's factions work together to capture Seats of Power and complete objectives across each seasonal Reign, making Rhaenys an active part of how players shape their version of the conflict.

Naturally, Rhaenys arrives with the Red Queen herself, with Warner Bros. Games and HBO describing Meleys as the most highly requested dragon among Dragonfire players. Eligible players who have progressed through two seasonal Reigns can obtain her Legendary Relics through the Hatchery once they reach The Dragon's Divide. The campaign follows the introductory Heirs of the Dragon and Shadow of the Greens campaigns, with individual Reigns generally lasting around eight weeks.

Meleys has also been designed to reflect the qualities that made her such a formidable dragon in House of the Dragon. Classified as a Legendary Warrior, the Red Queen is modeled after her television appearance, including her distinctive scarlet coloring, while her exceptionally high Initiative and speed make her an aggressive physical attacker.

Her Scarlet Strike Command specifically targets the opposing dragon with the highest Initiative and applies Laceration, which progressively reduces that target’s Initiative. Additional abilities can increase Physical Damage Received, apply Vulnerable, reflect incoming attacks, and allow Meleys to strike multiple enemies during later rounds.

Bringing Rhaenys and Meleys back in Game of Thrones: Dragonfire gives players the opportunity to rewrite their role in the Dance, putting the Queen Who Never Was back in command and letting the Red Queen return to battle after their tragic fall at Rook’s Rest.
