‘My expectations are much higher’ – Fifi Kwetey gives government 7/10

NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey has rated his party’s performance in government 7/10, saying he expects more despite giving it a passing score.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, he said the government should aim higher.

“Maybe because my expectations are much higher, for now I will give it seven.”

He described the score as “more than a pass” but made clear that it was no reason to settle, saying, “I expect us to push for more.”

When asked for his ideal mark, Mr Kwetey replied, “10 out of 10.”

He acknowledged that a perfect score would be difficult. Still, he wanted performance to improve towards the eight-out-of-10 range.

His assessment came alongside questions about accountability. The interviewer cited allegations involving World Cup visas and the National Sports Authority head being asked to step aside.

Mr Kwetey said he had never expected the government to complete its term without problems. He argued the real test was how leaders responded.

“There's no government on the planet that could go four years without having a difficulty.”

“But the difference is what leadership does when things of that nature emerge.”

He said party membership offered no guarantee that an official would uphold the values they professed.

“As I told you, the party is not made up of angels. It's humans.”

Mr Kwetey insisted that protecting the party should not mean shielding individuals accused of wrongdoing. He said the leadership must be prepared to act against officials, regardless of their position.

“You take a tough decision. You deal with them, no matter who they are, whether they are ministers or they are CEOs.”

Drawing a distinction between the NDC and the NPP, he accused the previous administration of defending wrongdoing. He maintained that the current leadership would respond differently.

“Under us, if it happens, we will deal with you.”
