Photos: Egypt introduces its first industrial robot built with 80% local components

Egypt has officially debuted its first locally manufactured industrial robot, a key milestone in the country’s push to shift from importing technology to building automated factory systems at home.

Developed by local startup Raed Bots in partnership with Egypt’s Industrial Modernization Center, the robotic arm boasts an 80 percent local component ratio—a figure developers plan to increase to 90 percent once motor manufacturing is brought locally.

Unlike theoretical or lab-bound concepts, the robot has already landed its first real-world deployment: it is being integrated directly into packaging machinery operated by QB, a domestic manufacturing firm.

The robotic unit is tailored specifically for industrial packaging and automation on production lines.

Academic-industry pipeline

Raed Bots also partnered with Mansoura University’s Faculty of Engineering to supply educational variants of the robot for hands-on student training and research.

The bigger picture

Officials hope the rollout demonstrates that Egyptian-engineered hardware can reliably replace expensive foreign machinery, cutting import dependence while accelerating smart manufacturing across local factories.
