Sebastian Stan has warned fans that they could be in for big heartbreak in Avengers: Doomsday. The Marvel epic is due to hit the big screen in December, and Bucky Barnes actor Stan has suggested that viewers should expect an emotional ride.

"I haven’t seen the movie, and I don’t know how it turned out," he told Decider. "I’m sure it’s going to be probably heartbreaking, in a lot of ways. We’ll see who makes it to the next level."

Opening up further about reuniting with co-stars such as Chris Evans on Doomsday, Stan shared: "I got a chance to reunite with everyone.

"It was very nostalgic to look back, and think about all of these years that we’ve known each other, and grew up together. It’s incredible in that way. It’s been a family and it never stops being that way."

While everyone is in the dark about the movie's events, there have been some rumours swirling about possible deaths – though who could potentially meet their ends remains to be seen.

What we do know is the film – which sees Robert Downey Jr return to Marvel, this time as villain Doctor Doom – will have a surprising ending.

Speaking to Fandango, co-director Anthony Russo recently teased: "It's a two and a half hour movie or so, and you're sitting through it, and it's a focused propulsive narrative that has like an organizing principle at its center, and everything has to orbit around that.

"That's part of the creative challenge for Joe and I – just figuring out how that what that orbit is and how it all smashes together."

Joe Russo added: "I think people are going to be surprised. It's a very surprising ending. It's a very surprising movie and that's all we'll say about it."

Doomsday will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, which is rumoured to have delayed its production start date from two weeks' time to November.

Avengers: Doomsday is released in cinemas on 16 December.
