China’s Huawei and Qualcomm (QCOM) have agreed to a multi-year, broad patent licensing deal covering 5G, computing, AI and networking technologies.

The agreement includes cross-licenses to their respective patent portfolios, while Qualcomm will also purchase certain Huawei U.S. patents covering computing, AI, networking and other technologies. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals.

Huawei said its intellectual-property licensing business has generated positive revenue since 2021, reflecting its sustained investment in R&D. The company held more than 165,000 active granted patents at the end of 2025.

The companies previously settled a patent dispute in 2020, when Huawei agreed to pay Qualcomm $1.8B in back licensing fees.
