Assassin's Creed fans are waiting as patiently as possible for any news on the upcoming release of Hexe, the next mainline game in the franchise that will reportedly plunge players into the witch trials of Central Europe. Rumors have long suggested that Hexe will be set during the Holy Roman Empire's infamous witch hunts, potentially in what is now Germany, giving the series one of its darkest and most intriguing historical settings yet. More recent reports have even pointed toward Würzburg, although Ubisoft has yet to officially confirm those details.

In the meantime, the Assassin's Creed franchise remains remarkably busy, with the recent release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced bringing Edward Kenway's beloved pirate adventure back for a new generation. With additional projects still in development, such as the upcoming Watcher of the Reals crossover, there's a lot to look forward to for the now 18-year-old franchise.

Perhaps one of the most compelling upcoming releases arrives in December 2026, with Heredis: Echoes of the Past taking the franchise in a completely unexpected new direction we've never seen before (via Ubisoft).

Ubisoft is officially expanding Assassin’s Creed beyond the realm of video games with Heredis: Echoes of the Past, a wholly original live stage production created in collaboration with Montreal-based contemporary circus collective The 7 Fingers. The show blends acrobatics, parkour, theater, and history while drawing directly from the worlds and themes of Assassin’s Creed.

Its story follows a young man traveling through different periods of history in search of his missing father, and Ubisoft stresses that audiences won't need any previous knowledge of the games to follow the adventure. Heredis will make its world premiere at Montreal's Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts on December 3, 2026, with performances running through December 20.

The production will then travel to Paris, where it will play at the Casino de Paris from January 21 through February 7, 2027. Both runs will be performed in French, and the approximately two-hour show includes an intermission. Additional tour dates are expected to be announced later.

The announcement was part of a larger update on the Assassin's Creed franchise, where Ubisoft also revealed a crossover with fantasy RPG Watcher of Realms, bringing Ezio, Kassandra, Eivor, Bayek, and Evie into a new storyline featuring stealth-inspired gameplay and returning voice actors Roger Craig Smith and Melissanthi Mahut.

Ubisoft also detailed a Philips Ambilight TV partnership running through 2027, an upcoming Echoes of History podcast AMA focused on the French Crown Jewels, and new Black Flag Resynced music coming soon, including expanded sea-shanty collections and 22 new score tracks composed by Stephen Lukach.

Overall, the newest update has some very exciting new opportunities for longtime Assassin's Creed fans and marks a major milestone for the franchise as well, as Heredis: Echoes of the Past is Assassin’s Creed's first full-fledged narrative stage adaptation, taking the franchise into live theater after previous concert productions such as Assassin’s Creed Symphony.
