BANDAR PERMAISURI, Oct 11 — Two women were killed when the Proton Waja car they were travelling in was involved in a five-vehicle collision at Kilometre 48 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu in Kampung Selamat here yesterday afternoon.

The victims were identified as the driver, trader Nur Fauziah Ismail, 38, from Kampung Apek, and front-seat passenger Zawiah Halias, 41, a trader from Kampung Hulu Kekabu.

Setiu District Police chief Supt Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said police received information about the crash at about 4pm, while the incident is believed to have occurred at 3.45pm.

He said initial investigations showed that the Proton Waja travelling from Kota Bharu towards Kuala Terengganu was believed to have skidded into the opposite lane before colliding with a Mercedes-Benz trailer.

“Following the collision, the trailer also skidded and grazed a Perodua Aruz multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), a Perodua Myvi and a UDT lorry travelling from Kota Bharu towards Kuala Terengganu,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said both victims were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies sent to the Setiu Hospital Forensic Unit.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Zahril Asri urged road users to obey traffic laws and requested witnesses to contact the Setiu District Police Headquarters Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division to assist in investigations. — Bernama
