DOH raises code white alert amid STS Queenie
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday activated code white alert amid the potential effects of Severe Tropical Storm Queenie.
According to the DOH in an advisory, code white places its operations center under 24/7 alert to ensure timely response in the affected areas.

It is also meant to tell the public of the department’s continued coordination with relevant agencies, local government units and regional disaster units.

“Although not expected to make landfall, the storm will still bring heavy rains and the threat of flooding,” said the DOH.
“That’s why the DOH advises: Avoid going into floodwaters,” the health department noted.
“If it is unavoidable, immediately consult the nearest health facility or YAKAP clinic to be examined by a doctor and avoid diseases such as leptospirosis,” it added.
Queenie was last spotted 575 kilometers (km) east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
It is expected to strengthen to typhoon category within the day, but is forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility around Sunday. /apl
