Bali introduces odd-even license plate fueling system starting Oct 17

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali Provincial Government and state-owned fuel distributor PT Pertamina Patra Niaga will implement the odd-even license plate system for fuel purchases at gas stations across the province starting October 17, 2026.
The Area Manager of Communication, Relations & CSR for PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Jatimbalinus Region, Ahad Rahedi, said the regulation will take effect from October 17 to 19, 2026.
"The scheme will take effect from Saturday, October 17, 2026, to Monday, October 19, 2026, with odd-numbered license plates on the 17th and even-numbered license plates on the 18th," he explained on Friday.
The scheme requires vehicle owners to match their vehicle's last license plate number to the policy's effective date.
The company is implementing this fuel purchase restriction simultaneously at all Pertamina gas stations throughout Bali Province.

During the policy period, the company will evaluate conditions and oversee queues at gas stations, with support from the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police.
In addition to implementing the odd-even license plate fueling system, Rahedi assured the public that the company had 48 million liters of fuel in stock at the Sanggaran and Mengwi terminals in Bali, sufficient to meet the island’s needs for the next 14 to 15 days.
To ease fuel queues, the company has also extended its 24-hour operating hours at 66 gas stations, including 42 in Denpasar and 24 in Badung District.
Furthermore, the maximum fuel tank capacity limit has been set at 20 liters for four-wheeled vehicles and 3 liters for two-wheeled vehicles.
One of the causes of the fuel shortage in Bali was a delay involving a ship carrying 18 million liters of fuel.
"The ship was scheduled to dock on Sunday morning (Oct 11), but did not arrive until around 10 p.m. local time. This delay disrupted the scheduled fuel distribution to the depot," Bali Governor Wayan Koster said.
