Mark Grayson has always been the heart of Invincible, with both the original comic series and Prime Video's animated adaptation building their stories around his evolution from an inexperienced teenage superhero into one of Earth's most important defenders. As the son of Omni-Man, Mark begins his journey eager to follow in his father's footsteps, only to discover that being a Viltrumite comes with responsibilities, forcing moral compromises he could never have anticipated.

The animated series has remained remarkably faithful to that central journey from the comics, even as its expanding cast and cosmic conflicts have pushed the story far beyond Mark's early adventures. After four seasons, there is still plenty of Mark's story left to adapt. With Invincible already renewed for Seasons 5 and 6, fans can look forward to seeing where the show takes him next, but the franchise is officially replacing the iconic protagonist in this critically acclaimed new release.

Mark Grayson Isn't The Star Of This New Invincible Release

Mark Grayson as Invincible in Invincible

Invincible is officially switching main characters with the franchise's recent release, as Mark Grayson is no longer necessarily the hero at the center of the story. Instead, Free League's tabletop RPG puts players in control of superheroes of their own creation, effectively allowing an entirely new protagonist, or group of protagonists, to take Mark's place.

The game lets players create everything from speedsters and inventors to vigilantes, aliens, and traditional flying superheroes before sending them into their own corner of the Invincible universe. Characters will balance superhero duties with relationships and personal problems while confronting the enormous battles, alien threats, alternate dimensions, and difficult decisions that define the original series. Free League even notes that groups can transplant the system into an entirely original superhero setting of their own making if they prefer.

That marks a significant perspective shift for Invincible, as the comic's 144-issue story and its television adaptation are fundamentally Mark Grayson's journey, following his growth from an inexperienced teenager into a seasoned superhero. The RPG instead hands that narrative responsibility to the players, and while Mark and his world provide the foundation, you get to become the main character of an Invincible story for once.

The Invincible Superhero RPG Is A Huge Hit Already

Early feedback suggests the Invincible Superhero Roleplaying game has been a major success for Free League. Long before its July 2026 release, the RPG smashed its Kickstarter target, reaching its funding goal within just 30 minutes. The campaign ultimately raised more than $3.82 million against a $500,000 goal.

Reception since then has remained encouraging, with ScreenRant's own review from Austin King calling it a "Brutally Fun Superhero" game and praising it as an RPG that successfully translates the appeal of Invincible into tabletop form. With strong crowdfunding support and enthusiastic early word of mouth, Free League appears to have found another worthwhile way to expand the Invincible universe.
