KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Malaysia’s wholesale and retail trade recorded sales of RM173 billion in August 2026, an increase of 10.5 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y), said the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).

In a statement today, DoSM said the volume index rose 3.6 per cent y-o-y, with growth across all three sub-sectors.

“Wholesale trade recorded sales of RM81.2 billion, an increase of RM11.5 billion or 16.5 per cent y-o-y.

“Retail trade increased by RM4.4 billion or 6.5 per cent to RM71.7 billion, while the motor vehicles sub-sector expanded by RM0.5 billion or 2.5 per cent to reach RM20.1 billion,” it said.

DoSM said the three sub-sectors collectively contributed RM16.4 billion to the increase in sales, led by wholesale trade, followed by retail trade and motor vehicles. — Bernama
