Cookie Monster Has ‘Got to Go!’ (Potty) in Parody Video of Chappell Roan’s Hit for ‘Sesame Street’

If you thought “Hot to Go!” by Chappell Roan couldn’t get any catchier, Sesame Street has entered the chat.

Cookie Monster is switching out his usual cookie-chasing attire for a sparkly blue getup in the new music video that arrived Wednesday (Sept. 16) for “Got to Go,” the Sesame Street crew’s playful parody of Chappell Roan’s “Hot to Go!” The potty-training anthem, which also features Elmo and Abby Cadabby, gets a colorful Sesame Street makeover while still keeping the visual flair that made Roan’s original such a perfect pop hit.

Cookie Monster takes center stage in a glittery blue outfit that calls to mind Roan’s look in the original “Hot to Go!” video, enthusiastically leading the way through the potty-themed performance. Elmo and Abby join in for the chorus, sporting their own shimmering blue outfits as the trio turns bathroom breaks into a full-fledged musical number.

And because this is Sesame Street, there’s a little learning tucked into the choreography, too.

As the characters sing along, colorful letters pop up to spell out “P-O-T-T-Y” — giving young viewers a musical reminder of what to do when their bodies tell them it’s time to go. The familiar, instantly recognizable structure of Roan’s song makes the lesson feel more like a dance party instead of a simple potty-training tutorial.

The video is the a sparkly addition to Sesame Street‘s Parody Party, a seven-song collection of kid-friendly takes on some of pop’s biggest recent hits. The album, released July 26 through Arts Music, also features Sesame Street spins on Bruno Mars‘ “I Just Might,” RAYE‘s “Where Is My Husband!,” HUNTR/X‘s “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters, Taylor Swift‘s “Shake It Off,” Icona Pop‘s “I Love It” and Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe.”
