The Kansas City Chiefs had little time to enjoy their 22-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers before another challenge came into view. Their next match was with Seattle, where the unbeaten team hoped to extend its winning run against the defending Super Bowl champions. Head coach Andy Reid had to prepare for Sunday night without several players who had contributed to the team's plans this season. The latest injury update raised concerns about the protection around Patrick Mahomes and the options available to him on offense.

Andy Reid gives injury news on Kansas City Chiefs players

Reid confirmed on Friday that wide receiver Rashee Rice, running back Brashard Smith and offensive tackle Jaylon Moore would miss the Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

"All right, as far as the injuries go, Jaylon Moore is still in the concussion protocol. So most likely he'll be listed as out. Rashee Rice will be out,” Reid said on a conference call released by the Chiefs on YouTube. “And then Brashard [Smith] hurt his hamstring yesterday, and he will be out. So [Jaydn] Ott will be the one that works into his spot."

Rice had been out since hurting his hamstring during the first quarter of the Chiefs' October 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

He missed the game against the Chargers, extending his absence at a time when Mahomes needed his regular receiving options. Rice had recorded 13 catches for 190 yards across his first four games of the season.

Smith suffered his hamstring injury during Thursday's practice. The second-year running back had appeared in every game before the setback, although his role had decreased following Kenneth Walker III's arrival in Kansas City.

Moore's situation created another problem for the offensive line. He suffered a concussion during the October 18 win over the Chargers and remained in concussion protocol. Reid indicated that the tackle would likely be ruled out, adding to the team's list of unavailable players.

Kansas City Chiefs turn to Jadyn Ott as offensive line faces changes

With Smith sidelined, Reid said practice squad running back Jadyn Ott would likely be elevated to the active roster for Sunday's matchup. The undrafted rookie had signed with Kansas City before the season, been released during final roster cuts and later returned to the practice squad. His expected promotion offered the Chiefs another option in the backfield against Seattle.

Ott's potential elevation came as Walker prepared to face his former team. The veteran running back had given Kansas City a strong rushing option through the opening five games, recording 665 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 106 carries, according to Athlon Sports. His presence could help the Chiefs manage the loss of Smith.

The offensive line needs to be looked at. Joshua Ezeudu, acquired in a trade with the New York Giants before the season, replaced Moore during the Chargers game and was expected to start at right tackle against Seattle.

Kansas City had already placed tackle Josh Simmons on injured reserve because of a persistent back injury, meaning he would miss at least four weeks.
