Tanvi Sharma advanced to the quarterfinals of the Denmark Open 2026 after defeating Yvonne Li 21-17, 21-19 in the round of 16 match late on Thursday.
The 17-year-old will now face world No.1 An Se Young for the first time in her career.
Tanvi, coming off a 72-minute round of 32 match against Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira, enjoyed a quick 39-minute finish against Yvonne even though the second game was a close battle.
She dominated the first game from the start and Yvonne was only playing catch up until she couldn’t as Tanvi took the game with a four-point gap.
However, Yvonne challenged Tanvi more, point-by-point. On multiple occasions, Yvonne took a point lead as well. But after 16-16, Tanvi ascended quickly with four consecutive points.
Yvonne continued to fight back and reached 19 before Tanvi finished the game.
Apart from Tanvi, pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela will also be in action in women’s doubles. The duo will face second seeded Malaysians, Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan.
