Mat Sabu confident Amanah can win all 7 seats in Melaka polls

Amanah is optimistic about winning all seven seats it is contesting in the Melaka election, says its president, Mohamad Sabu.

He said the confidence was based on young voters’ support for Pakatan Harapan (PH), as well as the coalition’s decision to field more young candidates in the state polls.

“Amanah is contesting seven (seats), and we are confident of winning all seven,” he told reporters after a ceramah at Jalan Telok Gong, Pengkalan Balak, here last night.

Also present was PH’s Kuala Linggi candidate, Mukhlisul Mubin Julasapiyah, the youngest candidate in this election at 24.

Apart from Kuala Linggi, the other seats contested by Amanah are Bukit Katil (Adly Zahari), Durian Tunggal (Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat), Telok Mas (Mohamad Jaafar), Merlimau (Rahayu Hamzah), Sungai Rambai (Aminuddin Abdul Jalil) and Taboh Naning (Junainah Sahat).

Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu, said the young candidates fielded by PH were selected based on their qualifications and capabilities.

“We are giving them the opportunity from the outset. Criticism is normal. The young get criticised, and so do the old. I myself was 27 when I first became a candidate,” he said.

He said this did not mean that veteran leaders were being sidelined, stressing the importance of combining the capabilities of candidates from different age groups, both men and women.
