Cops chase van driver high on meth from KL to Cyberjaya

Police arrested a 41-year-old van driver yesterday afternoon after he led them on a 25km-chase from Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur to Cyberjaya, damaging several other vehicles in the process.
Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said patrol officers noticed the food deliveryman using his phone while driving at Jalan Merah Silu, Sri Petaling around 1.20pm yesterday.
They ordered the driver to halt his vehicle, but the suspect refused and instead made a sudden U-turn as he attempted to escape, Berita Harian reported.
Hoo said the cops gave chase and pursued the suspect through the Maju Expressway before finally cutting him off along Persiaran APEC in Cyberjaya.
The suspect had crashed into several vehicles during the chase, with affected road users expected to file police reports over the incident, he added.
According to Hoo, the police did not find any illegal substances in the van, but a urine test showed the suspect had tested positive for methamphetamine.
He said the suspect has a criminal record with four previous cases, including for drug offences, and the van has been seized for further investigation.
Hoo added that police are tracking down the owner of the vehicle to assist in the investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from discharging their duties.
He is expected to be remanded for several days starting from today.
