Wan Saiful wants review of Bersatu excos’ positions in Kelantan, T’ganu and Kedah

A Wawasan leader has called for a review of Bersatu representatives appointed as executive councillors in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah following the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Wawasan vice-president Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the matter should be considered after Bersatu’s complaint to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) led to an investigation of the coalition.

“We do not want them to exploit state government resources and the trust placed in them to stab us in the back, as Bersatu has done within PN.

“We must not give room to those who will ultimately weaken our struggle and cause us losses,” he said at a ceramah in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan, yesterday. A video of his speech was uploaded on Facebook.

However, Wan Saiful said a decision on the position of Bersatu’s executive councillors would rest with PAS, which leads all three states.

“We must be cautious and learn from this experience,” he added.

The RoS deregistered PN yesterday after finding that its response to a show-cause notice failed to justify retaining its registration.

The deregistration came despite the High Court granting PN leave to commence judicial review proceedings against the RoS over its notice suspending the coalition’s activities and the show-cause notice requiring it to explain why action should not be taken to deregister it.

It also sought a declaration that both notices were null and void and of no effect.

The RoS suspended PN on Sept 23 following a notice issued to the coalition seeking an explanation of a complaint lodged by Bersatu.

Bersatu alleged that it was excluded from a key PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16, and raised questions about its membership in the coalition.

PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition would challenge the deregistration in court and seek a stay of the RoS decision.
