Kingdom Hearts 4: Release window, platforms, story and more

After years of waiting for even an inkling of news, it looks like there's finally light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the Kingdom Hearts 4 release date.

Its 2022 announcement brought tremendous hype and was immediately followed by a classically Square Enix period of total silence.

But after some recent news, we finally have more information about the game including a confirmed launch year for Kingdom Hearts 4, which you can find out about down below!

When is the Kingdom Hearts 4 release date?

Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently scheduled to release in 2027.

That's still a while to wait, but considering how long we've waited, having a concrete release year at all is something of a blessing.

While there's still a chance it could be delayed to 2028, the fact that achievements for the game were leaked via Steam in September 2026 suggests that development is proceeding as planned!

What platforms is Kingdom Hearts 4 on?

Kingdom Hearts 4 will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.

These platforms were confirmed by Square Enix in June 2026, and fans will no doubt be delighted that no matter what platform they're on, they'll be able to dive in from day one.

It should be noted that the PC version of the game will be available via both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Can I pre-order Kingdom Hearts 4?

Pre-orders are currently not open for Kingdom Hearts 4.

Considering the game doesn't even have a release date yet, this isn't too surprising.

We'll update this as and when pre-orders go live, so be sure to check back later.

Kingdom Hearts 4 will be the first chapter of The Lost Master Arc, following the conclusion of The Dark Seeker Saga of the previous games.

Director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that the game will be a bit of a reset, so that new players to the series won't be entirely lost if they choose to jump in from KH4.

As for specifics, we really don't know much at all about the story, beyond that it will take place in Quadratum, a world of neither light nor dark resembling the real Tokyo ward of Shibuya.
