AC technicians are heart of green jobs movement: Minister

Bekasi, West Java (ANTARA) - Environment Minister Moh Jumhur Hidayat said air-conditioning technicians are central to Indonesia's green-jobs drive, helping improve energy efficiency and prevent refrigerant leaks that can damage the environment.

Hidayat made the remarks on Wednesday at the World Ozone Day 2026 commemoration with Manpower Minister Yassierli at the Vocational Training and Productivity Center in Bekasi, West Java.

He said trained technicians can keep cooling systems energy-efficient while using specialized skills to prevent refrigerant leaks during installation and maintenance.

Hidayat said certified technicians play an important environmental role while creating green employment opportunities and supporting household incomes.

The Environment Ministry handed over 99 training equipment units to 14 Vocational Training and Productivity Centers under the Manpower Ministry, spanning locations from Aceh to Sorong, Papua.

Hidayat said the equipment would help develop a new generation of technicians with skills supporting environmentally sustainable cooling systems.

He said cooperation between the two ministries has continued since 2017, supporting environmentally conscious economic growth in line with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita priorities.

Through Indonesia's National Work Competency Standards, authorities have begun training technicians in environmentally friendly refrigeration and air conditioning, supporting the competitiveness of the green industry.

Authorities are accelerating skills development in refrigeration and air conditioning as demand for cooling equipment reaches millions of units nationwide, making the sector increasingly important.

Yassierli said technicians' ability to prevent leaks of ozone-depleting refrigerants can reduce atmospheric damage, while supporting Indonesia's target of cutting hydrofluorocarbon gases by 2045.
