Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has congratulated Ghana’s Black Maidens on reaching the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after their impressive 2-0 victory over Canada.

In a social media post, the Vice President said she had been following the team’s progress and was encouraged by the confidence and determination the players displayed throughout the competition.

She noted that the team’s performances continued to highlight the immense potential of women’s football in Ghana and described the victory over Canada as another important milestone in their campaign.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the players to stay focused, united, and confident as they prepare for the tournament's knockout stage.

“Every stage offers a new opportunity to show the world what they can achieve,” she stated.

The Vice President also congratulated the players, technical team, and everyone who has contributed to the team’s success so far.

The Black Maidens booked their place in the knockout phase after finishing Group B with four points. After suffering a 3-0 defeat to Norway in their opening match, Ghana bounced back with a thrilling 3-3 draw against Brazil before defeating Canada 2-0 in their final group game.

Substitutes Linda Achiaa and Christiana Ashiaku scored to secure the crucial victory for Coach Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side and send them through to the Round of 16.

Ghana will now face Argentina on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, for a place in the competition's quarterfinals.
