Indonesian marine corps, Dutch military seek stronger defense ties

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy Marine Corps (Kormar) is seeking to strengthen defense cooperation with the Netherlands military through joint training initiatives and the establishment of a strategic bilateral forum.
The commitment was underscored during a courtesy visit by the Defense Attaché of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Colonel Hans van Reenen, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Lieutenant General (Mar) Endi Supardi, at the Hartono Marine Base in South Jakarta on Thursday (October 1).
According to an official Indonesian Navy statement released Friday, a key priority of the partnership involves elite skill-sharing.
Two to three jungle training instructors from the Royal Netherlands Navy Marine Corps are scheduled to visit Indonesia to study the host nation’s specialized jungle survival and warfare tactics.
Beyond various tactical instruction, both defense representatives outlined plans for goodwill visits between top marine commanders to foster stronger leadership ties.
They also proposed establishing a formal "Marines-to-Marines Talk" platform, designed to expand upon existing "Navy-to-Navy" bilateral dialogues and serve as a dedicated forum for evaluating defense system enhancements.
The bilateral meeting concluded with an exchange of ceremonial plaques, symbolizing mutual friendship and a shared commitment to deepening bilateral defense relations between Indonesia and the Netherlands.
