Jeremy Allen White recalls "daunting" aspect of filming The Social Reckoning

Jeremy Allen White has opened up about what it was really like working on upcoming movie The Social Reckoning.

Jeremy, who portrayed Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto in hit TV series The Bear for five seasons, plays investigative technology reporter Jeff Horwitz in the film, which tells the dramatised story of the 2021 Facebook leak.

Appearing on The One Show on Monday (28 September) evening, the actor was asked what it was like working with director Aaron Sorkin.

He replied: "Aaron is one of our greatest writers in film, and television, so I was so excited at the opportunity to perform his script, but it's daunting.

"I always thought I was pretty good at memorising dialogue and breaking down scripts, but that first week I struggled because it's so specific. It's not just memorising the words, it's the punctuation, it's the rhythm, it's inflection at the end of the sentence."

He continued: "But it's really special because I think Aaron knows exactly what he wants, there's not a lot of guess work for the actor, and it's just about how fast we can get there as actors and as a group."

Commenting on what he learnt about the impact of social media from making the film, Jeremy admitted: "I think I’ve always maintained a sort of healthy distance and just knowing what’s right for me and my own mental health around that stuff.

"But I did learn a great deal about Facebook’s intentions, I suppose. And I think going forward with that knowledge and making the film, reading the story, it’s just a reminder to keep a little bit of distance."

He added: "That’s not to say that there aren’t positives… There is community building and there is learning and there are good positive things, it’s just about keeping a comfortable distance, I suppose."

The Social Reckoning also sees Jeremy Strong take on the role of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Mikey Madison as former Facebook data engineer and whistleblower Frances Haugen.

The film is a follow-up to David Fincher's 2010 acclaimed, Oscar-winning movie, The Social Network, which saw Jesse Eisenberg play Mark Zuckerberg.

The Social Reckoning is released in cinemas on 9 October.
