Alberta politics are ramping up as we head into the fall, with a surprising byelection result in Calgary, and 10-question referendum about a month away.

The NDP seized a riding that had been held by the UCP, with many political watchers tying the vote to discontent over a referendum seen as a sop to a separatist faction in the governing party.
