Pikachu has been synonymous with the Pokémon name since it launched 30 years ago, featured as Ash's adorable and defiant sidekick in the anime, which arguably cemented it as the official face of the entire franchise. The Pokémon grew so popular that it got its own mainline game with Pokémon Yellow in 1998, giving players their very own Pikachu companion who followed them throughout their adventure, much like Ash's in the anime.
Since then, Pikachu has starred in countless games, including the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Super Smash Bros. series, alongside his own starring roles in Detective Pikachu and its Hollywood film adaptation. Between his appearances in nearly every generation of the games, countless anime episodes and feature films, etc., Pikachu has become a genuine pop culture icon.
Now, Pikachu is officially getting a completely new look this October, courtesy of an upcoming release that puts a timely and unique spin on the beloved mascot's classic design.

Pikachu is officially getting yet another makeover in Pokémon GO, this time as part of the game's upcoming Halloween 2026 celebration. The beloved Electric Pokémon will receive an all-new Halloween costume featuring a festive hat and capelet, giving the franchise's most recognizable mascot a spooky appearance just in time for the holiday.
The new design will debut during Pokémon GO Halloween 2026 Part I, which begins on October 27 at 10AM local time and runs through November 1. Unlike some of Pikachu's previous seasonal outfits, the new costume features a more elaborate combination of accessories, continuing the game's tradition of giving familiar Pokémon unique appearances for special occasions and holidays.
According to the official Pokémon GO announcement, players will be able to encounter the newly costumed Pikachu through one-star raids during the event. There's also a chance to find a Shiny variant, making the Halloween redesign particularly appealing for players hoping to add another rare Pikachu to their collections.
Pikachu isn't the only Pokémon getting a Halloween makeover, with Zubat receiving a fancy new top hat, while Sinistea will sport an adorable bow, with both designs also debuting on October 27. These costumes are inspired by Halloween-themed Pokémon Center merch, bringing some of the franchise's seasonal collectibles directly into the mobile game. Zubat will appear in the wild, while Sinistea will join Pikachu in one-star raids.
Returning favorites this year include Piplup and Drifblim wearing their Halloween Mischief costumes, while this year's celebration will also introduce a special trick-or-treat mechanic, with mysterious surprises appearing throughout the wild that can reward players with Pokémon encounters and various types of Candy.
Beyond the new costumed Pokémon, this year's Halloween celebration will introduce several other spooky additions to Pokémon GO, including new Gothic-inspired avatar outfits that let players dress up for the occasion. These seasonal cosmetics give trainers a chance to embrace the Halloween spirit themselves, complementing the event's costumed Pokémon and festive atmosphere. Further, the new Gothic-inspired avatar outfits will remain available in the in-game shop even after Halloween ends, allowing players to maintain their spooky style year-round.
The festivities will feature Halloween decorations appearing at PokéStops and Gyms, and the celebration will also feature a special remix of the iconic Lavender Town theme from the original Pokémon Red and Blue games, which will play nightly throughout the event. Longtime fans will undoubtedly recognize the eerie music from one of the franchise's most memorable locations, making its return in Pokémon GO a fitting addition to the Halloween festivities.
