Jakarta governor backs police's drug crackdown in North Jakarta

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has voiced full support for police efforts to crack down on drug trafficking, particularly in Kampung Bahari, North Jakarta.

"The Jakarta administration fully supports the National Police's tough action and all-out war on drugs. We fully back the operation in Kampung Bahari," Pramono said at City Hall on Monday.

He said he hoped the fight against drugs would be pursued consistently and without compromise.

He also pledged the city administration's cooperation and support for efforts to eradicate drug trafficking across Jakarta.

On Sunday (Nov. 1), joint police and National Narcotics Agency (BNN) teams raided a suspected drug trafficking hub in Kampung Bahari to curb local narcotics distribution.

North Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Adhe Hariadi said the raid began at about 5:30 a.m. and involved officers from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Narcotics Directorate, North Jakarta Police Narcotics Unit, and National Police Mobile Brigade Corps.

Officers used a commuter train from Tanjung Priok Station to reach Kampung Bahari and Kampung Muara Bahari.

The train served as an alternative means of transport, giving officers direct access to the areas along the railway line, which were suspected drug distribution sites.

Joint forces then inspected drug-selling stalls one by one along the railway tracks and in nearby residential areas.

Suspected members of the Kampung Bahari drug network resisted the officers during the raid.

Police said they seized narcotics, bladed weapons, and other evidence during searches and detained suspects believed to be linked to drug trafficking.
