WAFU Zone B: Edo Queens Miss Out On Champions League Qualification After Defeat To Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa
Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies defeated Nigeria’s Edo Queens 3-2, in a rescheduled WAFU Zone B qualifying final played today (Friday) October 29, in Cairo, Egypt, completesports.com reports.
The result means Ampem Darkoa claim the zone’s only ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
With the game tied at 2-2, Ampem Darkoa scored just two minutes into extra-time from a corner through Mohammed Afishata with the decisive goal to end the tie 3-2.
The original WAFU Zone B final ended 2-2 after 90 minutes before Edo Queens went on to win 4-1 on penalties and were declared champions, booking their place in Egypt.
Ampem Darkoa filed a protest, arguing the game went straight to penalties without the mandatory 30 minutes extra-time as stated in Article 72.4 of the regulations.

CAF’s Organising Committee for Women’s Football upheld the protest on September 26 and annulled the shootout.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) forwarded Edo Queens’ appeal, but the CAF Appeal Board confirmed the ruling on October 16, ordering the match to resume from 2-2 at the start of extra-time at a neutral venue.
Edo Queens had looked dominant in the earlier qualifiers – beating USFA 5-1 in the semis – after losing 2-1 to Ampem Darkoa in the group stage. But this second chance went Ghana’s way.
Ampem Darkoa will now represent WAFU Zone B at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt from November 1-15.
They have been drawn in Group B alongside defending champions AS FAR of Morocco, Kawempe Muslim Ladies of Uganda, and USFAS Bamako of Mali.
