What happened the last time Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma played in an ODI?

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be seen in action together after two months in the first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

The pair last played together in the third ODI against England in July.

Batting first, the Harry Brook led-side posted an imposing target of 387/3 for India. In the second innings, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India the perfect start, stitching together a 147-run partnership before Gill fell for 77.

Then, Rohit and Kohli, as they have done many times in the past in chases, kept India in the hunt with a 100-run parternship of their own. Rohit went on to score his 34th ODI century (138 off 110 balls) while Kohli was dismissed for 74 off 60 balls.

Despite their best efforts, England won the match by 27 runs and took the three-match ODI series 2-1.

While for Kohli, it was a continuation of his rich vein of form (his 74 was his eighth fifty plus score in his last 12 ODIs), for Rohit, scoring the hundred was particularly significant.

Not only was it a return to form for the opener after a string of low scores, Rohit’s innings came at an time when there was talks of retirement and uncertainity surrounding his place in the side.

Two months later, its safe to say Rohit is here to stay atleast for the foreseeable future.
