Ghanaian gospel musician Essi Donkor has called on parents, guardians and community leaders to strengthen support for girls’ education, saying young girls need encouragement and opportunities to remain in school and pursue their ambitions.

She made the appeal during a visit to her hometown, Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo in the Central Region, where she donated educational materials to students over the weekend.

The items included exercise books, school bags, pens, mathematical sets and other stationery to support their academic work.

Addressing the students, Essi Donkor described education as a foundation for a better future and encouraged the girls to remain focused, believe in their abilities and seek guidance when they encounter difficulties.

She urged parents and guardians to take an active interest in their daughters’ schooling and help address challenges that could disrupt their education.

According to her, keeping girls in school requires a shared commitment from students, families and the wider community.

The musician also encouraged the students to develop good study habits, respect their teachers and make effective use of the donated materials.

As part of the initiative, her management announced a GH¢2,000 reward for the student who achieves the best results in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Essi Donkor’s team lead, Gentletheblogger, urged the candidates to see the support as motivation to improve their academic performance.

“Learn hard and pass your BECE. Do not see this support as something ordinary. It is an encouragement for you to take your education seriously and work towards a brighter future,” he told them.

Essi Donkor said the initiative was intended to provide practical assistance while helping young people recognise the value of education and remain committed to their aspirations.

Community members welcomed the donation and commended the musician for supporting students in her hometown.
