Indonesia's Bali police investigate death of Dutch man in Uluwatu

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Denpasar police are investigating the death of a 60-year-old Dutch man who was found at a hotel in Uluwatu, Ungasan Village, Kuta Selatan Subdistrict, Badung District, Bali, on Saturday (September 12) night.

Denpasar Police Spokesperson First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said here Tuesday that officers were investigating the incident, including examining surveillance camera footage from the hotel.

“Based on CCTV footage, the victim allegedly jumped over a barrier on the hotel’s fifth floor at around 10:14 p.m. local time,” he said.

He said the incident was first reported after a restaurant staff member was told by a hotel guest that a man was lying on a road within the hotel grounds.

Hotel staff member I Nengah Arta Wijaya, 31, then reported the incident to his supervisor and checked the victim’s condition from an upper floor.

An ambulance from BIMC Nusa Dua Hospital soon arrived at the scene, where medical personnel examined the victim.

An initial examination found abrasions on the right side of the abdomen, an injury to the right elbow and a fracture of the right wrist.

Denpasar police identification officers estimated that the fifth-floor level where the victim allegedly jumped was about 14 meters above the ground.

Adi said CCTV footage showed the victim arriving at a corner of a corridor barrier at around 10:10 p.m. He then lifted a curtain, climbed over the barrier and stood on the outer wall before allegedly jumping.

The hotel said the victim had been staying there since August 16, 2026.

During his stay, hotel staff had repeatedly asked the victim to make payments, but he had reportedly not paid before the incident occurred.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the sequence of events that led to the foreign national’s fall from the hotel’s fifth floor.
