Central Lombok, NTB (ANTARA) - The 2026 Indonesian MotoGP generated an estimated economic impact of Rp5.2 trillion (approximately US$289.73 million), driven by record spectator attendance and strong tourist spending, state-owned tourism developer InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) noted.

The motorcycle grand prix was held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on October 9-11, 2026.

"An economic impact of Rp5.2 trillion and a record 157,875 spectators marked the success of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia," ITDC Acting President Director Ahmad Fajar said in a statement released here on Thursday.

Fajar noted that the event stimulated the local tourism sectors well ahead of race weekend, as domestic and foreign tourists began arriving in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and neighboring areas a week before the race.

Total attendance reached 157,875, representing a 12.5 percent increase from the 140,324 visitors recorded in 2025. The turnout marks the highest attendance since the Lombok circuit joined the MotoGP calendar in 2022.

"Average visitor spending reached Rp8.56 million (US$476.93) per person, measured from one week prior to the event through race day," Fajar said.

Driven by higher visitor numbers, the overall economic turnover rose 4.8 percent year-on-year from Rp4.96 trillion (US$276.3 million) in 2025.

The economic impact assessment was carried out by the Industrial Engineering and Management School of the Bandung Institute of Technology (LETMI-ITB), using on-site research conducted before and during the race.

"The assessment applied an Input-Output model based on Statistics Indonesia (BPS) table, paired with a Keynesian multiplier framework to calculate the grand prix's total economic contribution," Fajar explained.

He added that BPS will release its own independent assessment in the coming weeks, which will serve as an official benchmark for LETMI-ITB's findings.

"We are looking forward to the upcoming BPS report. It will provide an objective comparison to complement the LETMI-ITB's findings, giving a clearer picture of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia's broader economic impacts," Fajar said.
